victor, sprite and the fleas
Well, I have several happy things to report. finally.
First, I seem to have conquered the fleas. KNOCK ON WOOD. I have had no new bites in over a week, I have seen no new fleas, (or old ones for that matter) I had a scary moment two days ago, when a little red itchy bump appeared under my watch... it went away though, wasn't a flea bite. Thank the Lord, cause I was going to kill something really soon. (the fruit flies are dwindling too...)
Secondly, I think it's safe to say that Victor and Sprite have bonded. They have been together for 48 hrs now, and whenever I check on them, they are cuddling... or at least not eating each other. Victor is still miffed that she won't groom him, but he grooms her a bit, and mostly they sit, nose to nose, waiting to see who will give in first. The only problem is that Victor used to be free-range and have the run of the apt all day. I don't trust Sprite, and therefore, I have been containing them to the bedroom. I think Victor is a little sad to give up his living room. And I fear Sprite is capable of jumping the pen, and is just biding her time.... which means she would end up in the living room (bad) and Victor would be stuck in the bedroom watching her (worse)
Sprite's only annoying habit (so far) is she seems to take great pleasure in leaping onto the bed at 3am, and landing full speed on my head. UMPH. This is not a pleasant experience. By the time I am concious enough to swat at her, she's across the bed, leaping off, gleefully, laughing at me. Evil little snot. I have gotten this lovely greeting 4 nights in a row now.... ug. I was going to leave Sprite locked up during the day until I had shorter work days, but the first day, after a night together, when I got home, Victor ran over to her cage and looked at me, like "come on! let her out!" I did, of course. The next morning, before I left, I locked her up. She started chewing on the cage, and Victor ran over and was sticking his nose in the cage like he was trying to get to her, or free her.... so I felt a bit like scum... I let her out, barracaded the room and told her if she destroyed anything, I would kill her. Fortunately, when I returned home 14 hrs later, everything was in order, except the lamp on my nightstand was tilted over... pretty good.
I miss Cookie, and Sprite won't ever compare, but she's a sweetie in her own way, and I sure hope she will take care of Victor in his old age the way he took care of Cookie in hers.
