Catching up
I have kinda let this blog go...
To catch up, I am down to 6 bunnies. I am pretty sad about this. I mean, 6 is a nice number, easy to clean and take care of, so that I am glad for. But I lost Momma bunny and Daddy bunny this year. Momma's jaw abscess got worse, much worse. She was undergoing cleanings and scraping every few weeks. She was brave and tough and bounced back after every one with no complaints. She was eating within hours of every treatment, as though nothing had happened. But one morning when I went to feed her, she had little interest in food. She was lethargic and so I grabbed her up and took her temp. Well, it was very low and so I put her on a heating pad, and started warming up fluids to give her. Meanwhile I called my vet to let them know that if she didn't turn around in 30 mins I was heading over. They got ready for me. Well, after 30 mins on the heating pad, and 20 cc of warm fluids, her temp had dropped. Shit. So, off to the vet we went. Sadly, the x-rays showed bloat. (I knew it was bad when my vet walked in with the x-rays and hugged me...) I made the decision to throw every bit of medical care possible at her for 2 hrs, and if she showed no improvement, then I was going to let her go. Well, Momma lasted about 90 mins and started to go on her own, so my loving vet helped her over the bridge.
Daddy and I grieved and seemed to be doing better. I went out of town for work 6 weeks after I lost Momma and my petsitter called with bad news. I knew Momma and Daddy were inseparable, they have been since coming to my house. I guess Daddy just needed to be with his Momma. I was devastated, because I hadn't been there for him, I wasn't home for him. But I take comfort knowing the two of them are together again, Momma with a whole jaw and teeth, Daddy with no limp, and they are dancing and playing and looking over me from the Bridge. I sure miss their antics though.
I also lost Marilyn, from the last post. Her disease got worse, she went to move in with the vet, and the vet gave her 24 hr care for several months. But Marilyn's gut just wasn't working. And she got painful, and that's no way to live. So late one night, I went over to my vet's house, and we said goodbye. Pogo was there, and he seemed to understand that that was best for her. He groomed her a little and said goodbye to her. Pogo eventually came back to my house to live. I think he's still mad about that, he liked Sari's house better :)
Meanwhile, I still have Victor, who's an old man these days, Sprite, his youthful and devilish girlfriend... Joe and Frank who were Momma and Daddy's offspring (Frank is a girl, I didn't know that when I named her... ) And Willow, my baby love, and Pogo, my antisocial one. I really really want Willow and Pogo to bond, and they do spend hours cuddling through bars, but once in the same room, fur flies. Stupid bunnies. :)
6 is a good number. I can clean them easily, they all get play time, it's good.
